The second performance in an autumn jazz residency led by master percussionist John Lumpkin II in his first return to the Catskills since the Catskill Jazz Factory's Joy of Jazz Week in 2014!
Lumpkin joined by pianist Toru Dodo and bassist Adam Coté leads this free afternoon performance at Haines Falls Methodist Church called The Spiritual Side of Duke, which will explore the less recognized and spiritual elements of Ellington's famous body of work. Lumpkin's trio will honor one of jazz music's greatest legacies in homage to his "sacred concerts," three massive works from Ellington that were written between 1965 and 1973 that combine elements of jazz, classical, choral, gospel, blues and dance.
