CELEBRATE 175 YEARS OF THE SAXOPHONE!
The Joy of Sax is a world premiere program specially commissioned by the Catskill Jazz Factory for the 23Arts Initiative to mark the 175th Anniversary of the saxophone, led by "virtuosos on the saxophone" (New York Times) up and coming twin sensations Peter and Will Anderson. Joining the Andersons are world-renowned jazz notables including drummer Kenny Washington (Ahmad Jamal, Lee Konitz, Dizzy Gillespie), guitarist Peter Bernstein (Sonny Rollins new quintet), and organist Pat Bianchi (Pat Martino, Lou Donaldson).
Audiences can anticipate a repertoire filled with the stylings of sax legends Charlie Parker, Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, and Coleman Hawkins along with new original works, which will take the soulful sounds of a Hammond B-3 organ, bluesy jazz guitar, swinging drum set, and sultry saxophone to evoke the sounds of 1950s’ hard bop, groove, and swing.
For dinner reservations, contact Villa Vosilla at 518-589-5060. $35 per person, 3-course.
Peter and Will Anderson are one of the most extraordinary sibling teams performing music today. Hailing from Washington, DC, they were selected internationally for Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead, the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, and NFAA Young Arts Program. Their ensemble has performed in over 30 U.S. States, toured Japan, and featured four times in NYC’s famed “Highlights in Jazz” series.
