The Birth of Latin Jazz [March 2015]

Master trombonist and Columbia University professor Chris Washburne joined 23Arts and Catskill Jazz Factory at the Mountain Top Library for the third installment in our free lecture series. "Louis Armstrong & Duke Ellington do the 'Rhumba': The Birth of Latin Jazz" traced the roots of Latin Jazz all the way back to Don Azpiazu’s 1930 ‘The Peanut Vendor’, then tied this influence throughout the 20th century to present day. The lecture concluded with a performance and sneak preview of his upcoming album with SYOTOS, Low Ridin'.
